From Robin McKinley's website: Beauty has never liked her nickname. She is thin and awkward; it is her two sisters who are beautiful. But what she lacks in looks she can perhaps make up for in courage. When her father comes home with the tale of an enchanted castle in the forest and the terrible promise he had to make to the Beast who lives there, Beauty declares she must go to the castle, a prisoner of her own free will.
My thoughts:
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales. Beauty isn't just a pretty girl combing her hair while waiting for a white knight to rescue her and sweep her off her feet. She does some rescuing of her own, first saving her father from the beast and then saving the beast from his curse.
This retelling stays close to the original story. It's told from Beauty's perspective, and you just can't help but like her. I got completely caught up in the romance, I'll admit it. If you enjoy darker retellings, this is not your book, but if you want a simple, sweet happy ending, you'll love this.

This is a book that's been on by TBR for a while. I love the Tale of Beauty and the Beast.
This one and Rose Daughter are both really good!
