Slightly Off Topic: Series I Am Obsessed With

Amy, the author of many great book reviews over at Addicted to Books, recently made a comment on one of my posts that got me thinking. She said I would love Cassandra Clare's City of Bones, that it was the kind of series you get obsessed with. I am definitely the type of person to obsess over books (I was so into Twilight that I actually wrote a fanfic.. blush) and it got me thinking- which are the series that have me jotting release dates on my calender and haunting fanpages for teasers?

So without further ado, and in no particular order- the series I obsess over.

1. The Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. These are funny, sexy, mysteries about the exploits of Stephenie Plum, a former lingerie buyer turned bounty hunter. She has some help from her sidekick Lula, cop boyfriend Joe Morelli and the mysterious and extremely cool Ranger.

2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan. This is a young adult series following the adventures of demigod (one parent human, one parent a god of Olympus) Perseus Jackson. Set in the present day, these books draw on Greek mythology to create a world that completely pulls you in. Funny and exciting! I highly recommend. Check out my review of The Lighting Thief (Book One) here. The Last Olympian (Book Five, and the last of the series) is coming out May 5th.

3. The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. My review of City of Bones is here. Another young adult fantasy series, this one starts when 15 year old Clary Fray witnesses a murder in a club. A murder committed by three teenagers that no one else can see. And it seems that just about nothing is like Clary thought it was. Excitement, humor and romance... I've only finished the first book, but I'll definitely be continuing the series.

4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I guess this is not officially a series yet. Book Two, titled Catching Fire, is due out this fall. But the Hunger Games is FANTASTIC. If I were going to recommend only one book to you, this would be it. It's the kind of story that will stick in your mind long after you've stopped reading. Check out my full review and book summary here.

So, book fiends, which ones are the series that always have you coming back for more? Have you noticed that three of my four picks are YA? Any thoughts on that? Talk to me.

I've not read City of Bones (yet)--but as I love all the other series you mentioned, that's a sure-fire sign I'll like that one, too!

I have several favorites: an older ones I 've recently discovered - Donna Leon's Inspector Brunetti series, J.A. Jance's J.P Beaumont, Sue Grafton's "A is for.."

And then there's Alexander McCall Smith's "1st Ladies Detective Agency" etal

I think YA series are so very obsessible because they tend to be readable. The authors place an extra emphasis on creating relatable characters, and they're usually easy to just whip on through, fast as anything. And with series in general, you get the thrill of returning to your favourite characters over and over and over again, and there's nothing bad about that. :)

The Mortal Instruments series is awesome! I'm so glad to be seeing more people talking about it lately. The Hunger Games was a great book too.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians we have just started getting for school, they certainly sound great, so looking forward to reading that one. What about Artemis Fowl, I found those highly entertaining, and a big hit with the kids. Just starting the Cassandra Clare, speaking of fan fic didn't Clare begin with writing Harry Potter fan fic?
